I highly reccomend packing a busy bag. In a small bag gather all the necessities to keep your infant entertained and happy. (This will additional to your diaper bag.) I usually keep these items together and only get played with in the busy bag. Toys seem to become more appealing when they are new and exciting. Occasionally I switched the books and a couple toys out but some things always remained constant. Having a happy baby means you will more than likely have a nice meal, shopping experience are pleasant wait in line. Bottom line is infants and toddler well, all kids get bored no matter what the age. Come prepared and reap the benefits of an easy going outing with a stimulated child. I would always have a bag packed (stored in my car) and ready to go!
Reusable Placemat:http://www.amazon.com/Summer-Infant-Tiny-Diner-Green/dp/B002USCIRS/ref=sr_1_2?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1345344073&sr=1-2&keywords=travel+placemat This came in handy often. Not only does it protect from the germs on the table but is a great surface to eat off. It washes up well with a wet wipe, rolls up neatly and suction cups to the table. It has a built in scoup that catches crumbs from dropping to the floor. I would not leave the house without one!
I would include toys that stimulate but are not too noisy that would distract in a restaurant or public place. My daughter’s favorites:
Bright Start Links:http://www.amazon.com/Bright-Starts-Links–Solid-Colors/dp/B001ABZGU2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345347154&sr=8-1&keywords=links These are amazing, you can hook just about any baby toy to them to make them hang. I have used them on my stroller, high chair, grocery cart seat cover and even hooked to the car seat. Your child may even prefer to play with them on their own. These are a MUST HAVE for every child as far as I am concerned. I cannot even begin to tell you how many times my child would drop toys in the car and I would pull over to pick it up. Once I found these my life became easier!
Fisher-Price Laugh and Learn Smilin’ Smart Phone:http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Laugh-Learn-Smilin-Smart/dp/B00428LJ0Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345344837&sr=8-1&keywords=baby+smart+phone She adored this phone with its bright colors and songs. The volume is not loud an obnoxious and has two settings for volume control.
Small Picture Books:http://www.amazon.com/Library-Sesame-Editors-Publications-International/dp/1412705150/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1345345476&sr=8-4&keywords=board+books++set Small picture books are important not only for their content but fit nicely in their little hands. Look for books with bright stimulating colors and everyday objects. Before you know it your child will be reading to you what is on each page. I usually would bring 4-5 small book
Small Rattles:http://www.amazon.com/Bright-Starts-Grab-Spin-Rattle/dp/B000FMQWS2/ref=sr_1_30?ie=UTF8&qid=1345345816&sr=8-30&keywords=baby+toy This was one of my daughter’s favorite rattles. It was easy to hold, bright and had more than one function. You could spin the beds in the clear plastic rattle, chew on the handle and move the shapes.
Lamaze Play stretch Giraffe:http://www.amazon.com/Lamaze-Play-Stretch-Giraffe-Along/dp/B000I2Q0FE/ref=sr_1_44?ie=UTF8&qid=1345346106&sr=8-44&keywords=baby+toy This giraffe is not only adorable but always came with us. Your baby will love how the legs vibrate when they are pulled on. It jingles, chimes, squeaks and has teether rings around its neck. This was always clipped to our stroller.
Sassy Rattin Rings:http://www.amazon.com/Sassy-Rattlin-Rings-Blue-Black/dp/B002QB2LHQ/ref=sr_1_99?ie=UTF8&qid=1345346447&sr=8-99&keywords=baby+toy This is a classic. ever year a new colored version of this rattle comes out. Its perfect for gumming and holding. The little rings slide around as the small beads rattle in the plastic part.
I would also place a small package of antibacterial wipes to use on high chairs, clean off placemat and for when toys drop on the floor. These wipes smell good and are gentle enough to use on hands and face. Of all the antibacterial wipes, these are my favorite.
Well, there you have it my list of favorites for your infant or toddler’s busy bag. <3 Amanda
